First visit at the clinic: the practical guide.

Your initial consultation is a key step in understanding and identifying your expectations and needs (aesthetic and functional) that can be tailored to suit your lifestyle.

To ensure you receive the most suitable care for your needs as well as and optimal orthodontic treatment within a controlled budget :

1. Clinical oral examination
Before looking directly at the teeth, the orthodontist compiles background data to understand your needs as a patient : major complaint and medical/dental record. Then, the orthodontist will carry out a clinical examination. Your teeth, jaw, airway and smile and facial structure will be physically assessed. To build an accurate and comprehensible diagnosis, your orthodontist will finally collect objective data: study models( using 3D digital intra-oral scans ), radiographs ( panoramic and lateral cephalogram to visualize root structure, jaw position, and bone health) and photographs ( face and teeth for aesthetic and symmetry analysis).
2. Diagnosis and treatment plan
It is the critical first stage of orthodontic care: the orthodontist will identify and list the specific nature and cause of your dental, skeletal, and facial dysfunctions (malocclusions) to establish a rational treatment plan. A written treatment plan will outline the various orthodontic techniques and solutions that are the most appropriate to your specific case.
3. Financial estimate
The orthodontist will go through a comprehensive presentation and discussion of your specific case. Then, we will provide you a financial estimate (quote) along with payment plan options to spread the cost of your treatment.
4. Comprehensive planning of your treatment
Before your treatment start, the orthodontist will review with you the treatment process, appointment planning and practical arrangements for the chosen treatment.

FAQs: Health insurance coverage

Belgian insurance covered orthodontic treatments to a very limited extend.

Coverage varies depending on 3 different scenarios:

REIMBURSEMENT

1 st INAMI code 305933 (before 9 years old) = 430.11 €

- certified the day the appliance is fitted

2nd INAMI 305955 ( 6 months after 1 st code) = 430.11 €

 

To be eligible to a coverage of a regular orthodontic treatment ( and prior to any treatment) , initial consultation codes must submitted to the health insurance including first oral examination, X-RAYS, establishment of treatment plan. Those consultation codes serve as a request for treatment authorization from the medical adviser.

Please note that this must be done before the child turns 15.

REIMBURSMENT

1st INAMI code 305631 (before 15 years old) = 192.31 €

- certified the day the appliance is fitted

2nd INAMI 305675 ( earliest 6 months after 1 st code or after 6 orthodontic control visit a) = 192.31 €

36 monthly installment for regular orthodontic visit (305616) = 23.30€

Maximum 2 per calendar month and maximum 6 per 6 calendar months, regardless of the number of sessions (or as certified via code 305653 in the event of a reported interruption).

Retainer check-up session (305852). Maximum 1 per calendar month and maximum 4 per calendar year. »

No reimbursement from Belgium insurance.
